Hello everyone, this is Dao Yingzi.
To recap the content of Issue 020: Worry, rage, and improper diet cause internal depletion, unbalancing the circulation of vital energy throughout the body, stagnating qi and consuming yang qi, triggering various physical ailments.
Original Text of This Issue
Yang qi, when refined, nourishes the spirit; when gentle, nourishes the tendons.
If opening and closing of the interstitial spaces lose regularity, cold pathogens invade, giving rise to severe hunchback.
Cold sinks into vessels and forms fistulas, lingering between muscle interstices. Cold seeps through transport points, weakening visceral qi, spreading to cause constant fear and sudden fright.
Nutrient qi fails to flow normally, counterflowing and stagnating within muscle texture, generating abscesses.
Sweat lingers unevaporated, the body weakens, vital energy dissipates, acupoints are sealed, and wind-malaria develops.

  1. Mainstream Traditional Interpretation
When yang qi converges to form refined essence, it nourishes mental consciousness; when yang qi flows softly and unobstructed, it moisturizes all tendons of the body.
Defensive qi governs the opening and closing of pores and interstitial spaces. Once this regulation malfunctions, cold pathogens penetrate the body. Cold constrains tendons, leaving them deprived of warmth and stiffly contracted, resulting in hunchback. Cold invades deep vessels, causing blood stasis that festers into fistulas, lingering stubbornly within muscle gaps. Cold travels inward through back transport points, weakens visceral qi, disturbs the spirit, and makes people prone to fear and shock. Cold blocks the circulation of nutrient qi, which surges backward and stagnates in muscle tissue, generating heat and forming abscesses. Sweating exhausts yang qi and weakens the physique; cold then seals all acupoints, disrupting harmony between nutrient and defensive qi, creating alternating chills and fever known as wind-malaria.
  2. Personal Insights from Practical Cultivation
Drawing from years of sitting meditation and physical self-cultivation practice, I integrate two self-developed complete systems: Notes on Jin-Jing-Jing Circulation and Human Body System Theory of Dimensional Force Network, to interpret this scripture from a unique perspective and reveal the root causes of yang qi dysfunction.
All skin, muscle, internal organs and the spirit are woven from force network filaments. These filaments follow two opposing movement patterns: outward expansion and upward growth, versus inward contraction and sinking consolidation. This duality forms the foundation of the three-stage transformation: Jin, Jing, Jing.
Jin refers to fluid, unobstructed life vitality. When outward expansion force prevails, Jin qi spreads from the interior outward, keeping body filaments loose and unblocked. Excessive rumination and emotional repression weaken outward expansion, letting inward sinking contraction dominate. Deprived of outward dispersal channels, Jin qi converges inward, condensing into thick refined Jing. Left stagnant long-term, Jing tangles filaments into hard masses, eventually solidifying into crystalline stagnation. All physical pains and mental restlessness are external manifestations of crystalline blockages coating the body’s force network filaments.
Yang qi is the core driving force regulating dual body movement and sustaining smooth Jin circulation. When yang qi converges inward and settles, it refines Jin into pure vital essence, continuously nourishes spirit filaments, prevents crystalline turbidity from accumulating on spiritual networks, and stabilizes inner peace — this corresponds to "when refined, yang qi nourishes the spirit". When yang qi stretches outward softly, it distributes Jin evenly across bones and flesh, moisturizing tendon filaments for free, flexible movement — matching "when gentle, yang qi nourishes the tendons".
Middle age marks a turning point in bodily movement. Natural outward expansion declines, while inward sinking force gradually takes control, easily triggering unidirectional qi sinking like an inward suction vacuum cleaner. Jin and Jing continuously consolidate into crystalline stagnation, explaining why chronic stubborn illnesses frequently afflict middle-aged and elderly people. If one cultivates qi through quiet meditation, guiding vital energy at the chest center Tanzhong to grow upward and outward, outward expansion force strengthens, forming a defensive qi barrier radiating outward like a hair dryer’s steady airflow. Filaments remain unobstructed, Jin circulates freely without condensation, and external cold pathogens cannot penetrate the bodily force network.
Once yang qi is depleted, the protective surface force network loses regular opening and closing, cold pathogens invade, further amplifying inward sinking contraction and accelerating the condensation of Jin into Jing, then solidification into stagnant crystals. Each ailment in the scripture corresponds to this process:
Cold pathogens first attack surface muscle and tendon filaments, suppressing outward expansion movement. Jin qi stagnates and crystallizes within tendon filaments, contracting tightly and causing irreversible spinal curvature, namely severe hunchback.
Cold sinks deeper, penetrating visceral wrapping filaments into blood vessels. Crystalline deposits pile up within vessel filaments, decaying refined vitality to form stubborn, long-term fistulas that linger unresolved in muscle interstices.
Cold travels through acupoints — the exchange channels connecting the human force network to the universal force network — invading deep spiritual filaments. Crystalline blockages cover spirit networks, cutting off Jin nourishment pathways, destabilizing the mind and triggering unexplained fear and frequent fright.
Cold seals interstitial filament channels, blocking nutrient qi circulation along middle-layer force networks. Jin and Jing accumulate into crystalline masses, generate stagnant heat beneath the skin, and form abscesses.
Heavy sweating dissipates massive innate Jin vitality, damaging the surface protective network and weakening the physique. Cold fully seals all acupoint exchange channels, completely isolating the human force network from the universal network and cutting off internal-external energy resonance. Jin qi only sinks without rising, creating a constant clash between cold and warm energy that alternates chills and fever, developing wind-malaria.
In short, the root of all ailments described here is unbalanced yang qi dominated by inward sinking force. This breaks the normal Jin-Jing-Jing transformation cycle, turning flowing life vitality into solid crystalline stagnation that clogs three layers of bodily force network filaments from surface to depth, gradually generating all physical and mental discomfort.
  3. Practical Self-Cultivation Regimens
After understanding the pathological mechanism, we must implement daily self-cultivation to weaken inward sinking consolidation force, restart outward expansion momentum, reverse the decaying trend of Jin crystallization, cultivate surging outward defensive qi, and reinforce the surface protective barrier of the human force network.

Core Principle: Cultivate qi through tranquility before movement
All wellness methods root in calming the mind. Western practices call this meditation; traditional Eastern methods include sitting breath regulation and turtle breathing. Pair these with gentle guiding exercises such as Baduanjin, Five Animal Frolics, and Tai Chi to harmonize tranquility and movement, generating vitality through stillness.
Pure physical exercise alone dissipates internal Jin within force network filaments and weakens outward expansion momentum. Static sitting without movement amplifies inward sinking force, causing Jin to condense into crystalline stagnation. Only calming the mind first, guiding Tanzhong Jin upward and outward, then unblocking body filaments through guided movement can stabilize outward expansion momentum and halt qi sinking and consolidation.
Core Practice of Cultivating Qi Through Tranquility
Sit fully relaxed, clear distracting thoughts, and breathe slowly and gently. Follow the vitality logic of flowing top-down and expanding outward from the core, focusing attention on Tanzhong. Consciously guide Jin vitality here to rise slowly and spread outward, continuously reinforcing outward expansion force.
With consistent practice, three layers of bodily force network filaments stay loose and unblocked; Jin circulates perpetually without condensing into Jing or crystals. A warm defensive qi barrier radiates outward across the whole body, repelling cold pathogens from invading the bodily force network and fundamentally preventing filament stagnation lesions.
    Three Sustainable Daily Cultivation Routines
Sitting Breath Regulation & Turtle Breathing
Sit cross-legged with a relaxed, upright spine, hands resting lightly before the abdomen. Calm natural breathing and slow respiration to subtle gentleness. Inhale with focus on Tanzhong, lifting Jin vitality upward to boost outward expansion movement. Exhale slowly and relax, letting warmth spread evenly across all body filaments. Do not hold breath or force respiratory control. Practice for fifteen minutes daily to dissolve shallow crystalline blockages on force network filaments and cultivate surging outward defensive qi.
    Meditative Tranquility Practice
No fixed sitting posture required. Sit alone in leisure to empty the mind, detach from worldly worries, and focus on the rise and fall of your own breath. Calm anxiety and irritability, preventing negative emotions from tangling force network filaments and intensifying inward contraction force. Maintain balanced dual bodily movement to avoid rapid Jin condensation into Jing.
Traditional Guided Exercises: Baduanjin, Five Animal Frolics, Tai Chi
Best practiced in early morning. Prioritize lifting and chest-opening movements to stretch the ribcage, unclog Tanzhong force network filaments, and assist Jin vitality rising and expanding. Coordinate inhalation with lifting movements and exhalation with lowering motions to steadily dissolve crystalline masses across the body, weaken inward sinking momentum, and restore circulation of all body force network filaments.
    Core Meaning of Practical Cultivation
Human vitality relies on surging upward defensive qi, representing the positive state of outward expansion and uncrystallized Jin circulation. If inward sinking force dominates long-term, Jin condenses into Jing, Jing solidifies into stagnant crystals, and all body force network filaments layer into consolidation — marking the start of physical decline and deterioration. Cultivating defensive qi does not rely on forced exertion; instead, calm the mind first, drive Jin vitality to expand outward from within, unclog three layers of human force network channels, erect a full-body protective barrier, break the cycle of qi sinking and crystallization, and eliminate the root of all cold stagnation ailments mentioned in this scripture.
  4. Conclusion
Traditional interpretations analyze pathology from nutrient-defensive qi and visceral symptom manifestations, suitable for clinical syndrome differentiation. Based on years of personal cultivation experience, cross-referenced with the Jin-Jing-Jing vitality circulation theory and human force network system from Human Body System Theory of Dimensional Force Network, we reveal the core underlying principle of this scripture: yang qi governs the operation of bodily force network channels and Jin transformation. Cold pathogens amplify inward sinking momentum, break the normal cycle of flowing Jin and dispersible Jing, and turn warm life vitality into crystalline stagnation, damaging three layers of bodily force network channels from surface to depth and triggering all kinds of illnesses.
Derived from mutual verification of these two self-developed systems, bodily life movement follows two paths: outward expansion and growth, versus inward sinking and involution. Jin, Jing, and stagnant crystals represent three progressive stages of vitality consolidation. Daily self-care has two core steps: first, recognize that dominant inward sinking and Jin crystallization clogging force networks are the root of all illnesses; second, implement tranquil meditation and guided movement practice to continuously activate outward expansion momentum, preserve unobstructed whole-body force network channels and circulating Jin vitality — this is the fundamental method to resist cold pathogens and sustain long-term physical and mental wellness.
If readers feel unfamiliar with terms such as network filaments, dual movement patterns, Jin-Jing-Jing, and human force networks while reading, there is no need for confusion. These concepts belong to a complete theoretical system personally realized and studied by myself, which remains imperfect. Readers wishing to explore full explanations and step-by-step deduction may refer to my previous articles: Notes on Jin-Jing-Jing Circulation and Human Body System Theory of Dimensional Force Network, both containing detailed elaboration.
